Stuffed Animal Repair
Is your stuffed animal in need of repair? A victim of an unfortunate accident or an encounter with the family pet? Maybe just loved to death? Perhaps Backus Design Works can help. We originally set this service up to provide warranty work on animals and soft sculpture sold under the ‘MY KIDS’ label. We have limited scraps from past projects and can possibly match the original material on those items.
We also repair items from other manufacturers!
If some items come with previous repairs, we will usually not work on that animal unless it’s structurally unsound or per your request. Each repair was done by someone trying to heal your animal - our scars are what makes us who we are and we work to preserve that.
REPAIR EXPERTISE
In the spring of 1983 and 1984 the Denver Museum of Natural History held month long Teddy Bears Affairs. Patrons were invited to enter their bears to be displayed and judged in various categories. During the weekends, founder John Backus held repair clinics for bears in need of repair. Some bears were left for John to repair over the following week. Each month Backus Design Works repaired about 30 bears each weekend and a dozen or so bears each week that required more extensive repairs.
We will do our best to clean up your stuffed friend and repair any damage.

We would like to see a picture of the item and a close up of the repair area in an email.
We will then contact you with a photo of the proposed fabric before beginning the repair.
Materials
You can expect the replacement stuffing to be a polyester fiber fill.
If interested in shredded foam, please ask if we have it.
